Frederick was director at INSErM for 5years
The institute is dedicated to biomedical research and human health, and is involved in the entire range of activities from the laboratory to the patient's bedside. It also partners with the most prestigious research institutions in the world that are committed to scientific challenges and progress in these fields.
Frederick successfully developed several research programs in immunogenetics and immunotherapy, leading to 153 publications and 32 patents. He discovered the LAG-3 gene in 1990 and in subsequent research identified the functions and medical usefulness of this molecule. He headed a research group at IGR .He was Director of an INSERM Unit from 1991 to 1996
