I have already said the kid committed assault, (as did Anning, and the others).
Anning would have gotten away with the first hit as a reaction to being assaulted with the egg, but not the second one where Anning had time to think and approach the kid to deliver the second hit.

Incorrect, the kid would be liable for his own actions, as Anning would be for his own actions.
The law does not give Anning, or anyone else the right to retaliate, regardless of what actions preceded the retaliation.
