May in Australia is Autumm or your Fall in American so weather will probably be cool to mild. The meeting is being held in the centre of Sydney so I don't think that you should have any problems finding pubs.
Best of all your trip should be tax deductible as you are coming to protect your investment. But please check that out with your accountant as I am not familiar with US laws only Australian ones.
