I haven't begun winter pruning yet as my peach trees are
only now starting to drop their leaves. Don't do much summer
pruning as it is too easy to make mistakes. However the aphids
were murderous last spring. I sprayed them and thought I had
beaten them but they came back in great numbers as the weather
was slow to get hot. The result was that I lost some branches. Yes,
whole branches died (because the aphids sucked them dry) so I did
do summer pruning after Christmas, removing only dead branches.

I prune the apples, plums and prunes much later because the leaves
drop much later than the peaches. I wait until after flowering and
fruit-set before I touch the citrus and then it is usually only for a tidy
up, not a real pruning.
