I noticed from Vicinity's presentation that discount department stores have performed well over the past 6 months. With Kmart opening soon, Carindale will have the full offering of discount department stores of Kmart, BigW and Target to draw in more people. This category of tenants will likely perform ok in a post recessionary economy.

Also its good that David Jones was downsized to its new format last year and was trading well as stated in the half year report. Less disruption to the centre. Other major centres with a David Jones, eg Chermside and Garden City, may experience some disruption if David Jones decides to convert them to the new format.
