    Perhaps the Egyptians have come out of the frying pan and into the fire? Mubarak said there would be free and fair elections in September and he would not stand for reelection. What about now with the army in control? Perhaps not!

    The Egyptian army is paid by the US and they are Mubarak's mates. An election might put someone in control who is sympathetic toward the Palestinians. This might compromise the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip and give Fatah an armaments stronghold and a front to attack Israel from.

    Therefore, if there is going to be "free and fair" elections I'd say it is only for electing someone who the US and Israel want in control.

    Perhaps that is the real reason Mubarak had to go. The September election is seen as a risk to the stability of the middle-east and must be postponed indefinitely.
