Firms Bid for Egypt Gold Licences
August 23, 2009Seventeen companies from around the world have expressed interest in signing a gold exploration licence in Egypt's Eastern Desert. Bids are due by October 7. Last year, Egypt said it wanted to produce eight tonnes of gold from its mines in 2009. Sameh Fahmy, Egypt's Petroleum Minister, told Reuters: "It's clear that gold is starting to create a success story."
