Unconventional is generally a measure of permeability.

Well, not really. Otherwise Talinga CSG would be conventional gas. It's higher perm than many conventional gas reservoirs.

It's just that unconventional gas TYPICALLY has low permeability. So people have jumped the conclusion that unconventional means low perm, which means fraccing.

Unconventional gas in the true sense of the word is not about permeability but about where and how it's reservoired.

CSG, shale gas and basin-centred gas have completely different geology, drilling and extraction techniques. But they are all classified as unconventional gas. Why? Because they are not subject to migration and trap restrictions like conventional gas is.

Another, perhaps better, phrase to describe them is "continuous resource plays."

Anyway, this is starting to get off topic. The main point is, MEL is not being at all dishonest by referring to Kingfisher as conventional gas. It is conventional gas, but the drilling techniques it will require to get it out are those more commonly used in unconventional gas extraction.

I think MEL have made this pretty clear.
