That's a really bad step that, the first significant step down a very dark road. In what universe would a Government not utilise a tool that could silence opposition to their agenda? It's like the scorpion who stings the fox in the river or whatever. It's the natural instinct of a Government to want to stifle dissent, and this gives them extra leverage over all social media businesses to tow the Government line. Who would want to hand this power to their overlords in a democracy?

I understand the problem, but these powers are archetypally draconian and are willdly attractive for exploitation.
