I should add that the reason the stock market has not tanked yet is that there is hope that the US Senate will stay under Republican control. If The Republicans lose control, then the democrats will raise taxes and eliminate the Capital gains preference tax rate -- which they have promised to do.
Currently, the Republicans are hanging on by a thread. There are two run-off races that normally would be slam dunks in Georgia, but there has been a lot of mail-in ballot weirdness that will require recounts and probably Supreme Court intervention for the run-off elections in January.
The market will probably gyrate until the end of January and there will probably be opportunities to buy great stocks at historic discounts.
Remember, the Senate and House have elections in 2022, so whatever happens in January can (and probably will) be reversed in 2022.
I should add that the reason the stock market has not tanked yet...
