    All three articles are interesting reads acorn.

    I like the following statement:

    Currently, China’s renewable energy law stipulates that all renewable power generated must be purchased by the power grids, but law suit against the nation’s two giant monopoly grid operators State Grid and China Southern Power Grid for failing to do so are unheard of.

    Rather than AEMO's "dumb" approach of it just having the option to turn off rooftop solar systems, when the grid can not absorb all that excess energy, I interpret the above as suggesting that grid operators still have to "purchase" the excess energy.

    If grid operators received financial penalties for not using excess renewable energy, they would very quickly find ways to either store or transmit the excess energy to locations/customers that could utilise it. A much better outcome than simply shutting off rooftop solar systems while at the same time sinking more capital into gas peaker power stations and thereby locking in fossil fuel consumption for decades to come...

    The article about South Australia once again does not read particularly flattering for AEMO... something has to give!
