Spot on re the costs as a simple enough engine rebuild or crate is ok on its own but it never ends there. Mine has had transmission, exhaust, suspension, ignition, brakes, radiator, complete rewire etc etc. Probably about 30 to 35k but have stopped counting. Put later model heads in the rebuild so runs on premium but as you pointed out, low usage so running costs not really a factor. Mine is on full rego and at 400hp at engine is fairly sedate and reliable, get it out every week but it usually just an hour or so of shortish blasts around town.
There are a lot of positives for the LS and others you mentioned.
What is your cost estimate for e conversion with you doing the majority of work?
