Fair enough o.c.16. That is a 15A 240V outlet so it can deliver 3.6kW which equates to a maximum of 50kWh from 6pm to 8am. At 14kWh/100km most smaller EVs could drive about 360km, large ones consuming 20kWh/100km could only go 250km but that would still be adequate most of the time.
Mogga was quoting a (very one sided) American article that used a 10A 120V outlet which is only good for 1.2kW and less than 17kWh overnight. They were talking about a Mach E which according to Ford uses more than 23kWh/100km so would only be able to go about 70km on a 14hour overnight charge. The article quoted 36miles on a 12hour charge so that works out about the same.
On a related point just be careful about drawing a continuous 15A (or more) from your wall socket. The breaker will be rated at 20A or more so its easy to do assuming it is on a dedicated circuit but I have melted my welder plug into the socket by exceeding its duty cycle. It would be fine for a short while but the heat build up with continuous use was obviously too much and now the plug cannot be removed.
