How will EVs be charged in blocks of units/flats/apartments, new and old. The majority of new developments have a space set aside for each individual owner. There is no power sockets anywhere nearby. Due to safety and security reasons. To charge your EV they'll need to install a charging point at every single car space so that owners can recharge their vehicles overnight.
The cost of doing this is enormous, and dangerous. Every single outlet would have to be metered and read. So either the 240V power to the car space is a separate line from a main control box where the /dozens to hundreds of meters are installed. The other method is to install the meter next to the charging point, but this will mean that a meter reader will have to walk around an entire car park with how many levels to read each meter.
These charging outlets will then need to be locked otherwise any Tom, Dick or Harry can hook up to somebody to another persons charging socket.
An electrician's nightmare. Don't even suggest that EV charging points can be wired to the existing unit power meter, the nightmare of the wiring especially in old buildings would be extremely expensive.
The Body Corp wouldn't want to get involved as many will still prefer to drive their petrol driven cars. Me included.
