I'm surprised that hybrid technology hasn't been adopted in the heavy haulage industry. The extra starting torque should be welcome and if the motors were outboard of the diff, it would enable lighter running gear with fewer gears.
Demonstrates just how rapidly conventional technology is advancing that they feel no need to go this way.
