I was watching on bloomberg,this morning,the guy from Brammo electric bikes.

" Two years ago,the fastest we could go was,was 90 miles an hour,now 170 miles an hour,it took gas fourty years to acheive the same, a quantum leap."

The reality is,the current car manufacturers have had a century head start on electric vehicles,but IMHO electric vehicles can and will catch up quickly,just switching from steel/aluminium to carbon fibre alone will bring extra Ks to a fully charged battery.
