I guess you don't fly to more remote areas very often. If I go by myself, and depending where I am going I may fly to Townsville then hire a car. But return flights to Longreach are a bit costly along with hiring a car, with two or more (usually) it's cheaper to drive and even spend a night in a motel on the way. And as family are spread over three properties a couple of hundred k's apart on dirt roads, you are not supposed to take most hire cars "off road". I wouldn't even drive a car with low clearance to my brothers place unless I really had to. My car's range is pretty good, but I still take some spare fuel with me just in case.
I like the idea of an electric bike for commuting!
