I don't know why that was posted in the humour thread but as long as the question was asked, the timing is pretty good now that Tesla is bringing out a million mile battery this year or next. That is around 1.7 million kms. It will also be able to double as a home battery and will last around 20 years. After that, the lithium and other materials will be recycled. Try recycling burnt oil. Many if not most will be charged by solar power generated at home and/or at least partially by solar and wind generated commercially. How much lithium will be needed for that one battery that will last 20 years? The technoly is advancing rapidly. How much oil would otherwise be burned by petrol engines over that 20 years? How many oil spills will occur in that 20 years? How many petrol engines would need to be built and where will the iron come from to build those engines?
I guess the funny part is that someone thought that a was fair question to put into a meme.
The answer is obvious enough and most countries generate a significant and growing proportion of their power from solar and wind. We are heading in the right direction albeit slowly. Some nut cases think it's best to try and discredit positive change. Well then again, we know they are not nut cases, they are those that put their own interests over our environment - the car manufacturers that know they will be left behind and the oil industry.

How many trees are cut down to make the silicon in your solar panels?

According to the research, an electric car with a 75KWh battery and NMC 811 (nickel-manganese-cobalt) chemistry needs 56kg of nickel, 7kg of manganese, 7kg of cobalt and 85 kg of copper for electric wiring.
The problem is, the study claims, these land ores have limited yield and conventional land mining processes produce billions of tonnes of waste while leaking deadly toxins into soil and water.
