"Imagine the charge time for a 50,000KwH battery system. "
Well, that depends on whether you are applying critical thought processes or not.
There are indeed practical solutions to charge a 10/20/30/40/50 MWh battery pack.
Do you not think that the designers and engineers of such vessels haven't "imagined the charge time"...?
LOL
There are many examples, here are a few:
----
"The battery and fast-charging systems for all three ferries are supplied by Siemens Energy from the battery factory in Trondheim. Bastø Electric uses batteries with a capacity of 4.3 MWh. The fast-charging system has a capacity of 9 MW, according to the shipping company. When docking, the ferry is always “charged at lightning speed”.
If 9MW is possible, why not 30MW, why not 50MW...?
It's simply power management.

-----
"A battery-electric ferry with high-power, charging at each quay, won the contest. The fast charging system included the installation of a battery buffer system at each quay in order to facilitate high power charging of the ship without overloading the relatively weak grid."
-----
"Both shipyards where it will operate are equipped with massive charging systems that can reportedly charge the boat’s battery pack in just two hours, which is about the time it takes to load and unload the ship."

You have some grey matter, apply it.
