hmmmm --- as an interim - before some magic solution comes along
if we could work out cheap battery storage - but, it was unwieldy - too big or heavy for a car - but, could be fitted to buildings -
that would be workable -- just capture and store on site - then, charge the cars etc from that battery
no reason why that wouldn't work
that's effectively what nature does
the sun - makes trees grow - the trees fall down and become coal - then, we dig up the coal - burn it and use the released energy
that's just a multi conversion process -
let's say we discovered a cheap way of storing energy at home - some magic battery that was cheap - but, very heavy -
say, a couple of tons of some liquid - but, it could store enough to power a house for 2 weeks and charge 2 EV's --
there's no philosophical or practical reason why that would not be a good fit for running EV's
the only trick is - is there such a technology - cheap enough and enough clout
so far - no, but, that doesn't mean impossible
basically, to me - all we are doing is fluffing about on the route to the holy grail - which, we all know exists and we're just in the process of developing it -------------fusion -
be it small scale or large scale - we know that it's real - we just need to get it to work
god seems to have solved it a long time ago -- we just have to build small models of the same thing - and be able to control it without getting very badly sunburned
