For energy transmission we need to use collimating beam and the energy is subject to the inverse square law.
There is massive losses in the transmission of energy by means of though air or vacuum, there is nothing great about it, it’s inefficient, it can be done, I have made steel wool sparkle up by using a Klystron aimed at it across the workshop, but frequency was 27 GHz and 2 Watts of power, the efficiency was around 12% . Sometimes I wonder why I am still alive with some of the dumb and dangerous crap I used to do. Now to go and push a fork into the power point.
