    The cost of 100s of thousands of workers to physically count bits of paper

    Only if you can obtain access to it, in my suggestion there is no access on the slave terminals, it is not connected to the web, so the only way it can be interfered with is in the original bought off the shelf computer, or the bought off the shelf software which as it is individually tailored for each electorate it would be an almost impossible job to fix it

    There is never a perfect system and the simpler you make it the less mistakes/manipulated votes there are.

    As they found out in Austria any weird result brings an investigation and the result of the fixing in the southern USA when Bush was elected was just allowed to slide even though it was clearly weird. so regardless of the system if the authorities do not investigate or cover it up that's the end of the story
