Highly urbanised areas in Australia should be comparable to overseas cities but they are not. Signal loss is slight in a pure fibre network and can be overcome with repeaters across long distance, but massive in a copper or partial copper network.
The fibre networks used as backbone interstate and overseas are much faster than a copper network of just a few kilometres.
