Affordability is another issue Dermot. I bet that 40% would love to own
their own home and if they did, would prefer to not have to pay any cgt. The property
was not bought as a business investment but a place to live in. For many it took
20-30 years or more to pay off.
I hope no Party is contemplating taxing the family home because if they do they will cop
a political shellacking. It would a sure way to get smashed at the election.
Both CGT and inheritance taxes on the family home are not welcome in Australian society IMO.
