physically, they were really agressive young bull elephants with no role models or proper upbringing. plus they were completely traumatized by watching the murder of their parents. i'm in no way condoning their behaviour, i feel total empathy for the Rhinoes. they may never recover emotionaly from that sort of scarring. and even today we don't know how many Rhinoes were actually raped. we do know that 30 rhinoes were killed for resisting the advances. i dare say as elephants short sighted, they may not be able to tell a female from a male. so the 30 dead rhinoes may well be male.

one report i read was on uganda and they were using grenades to kill the tuskers and tying the calfs to the adults leg as they hacked the tusks out. thus keeping the calves out of the way. shocking thing for a youngster to witness.
