@TheCapatilist and @peejay2. Will add my 2 cents worth to your LIC discussion. I have a number of LIC investments along side my managed funds and direct share investments. I must admit that I've had several disappointments (capital losses), and learned a lot along the way. So to distill that experience down to a short summary > My smallish LIC portfolio consists of mainly international focussed LICs trading at a discount to NTA. Why? > My direct shares are all ASX so I need some global diversity. LICs are liquid and easy to trade. You get an international growth profile, but get income paid as fully franked dividends (in most cases). I think the decision to invest should focus on the portfolio manager, and their track record in general as an asset manager.
I currently own the following. These are not recommendations. DYOR.
RF1 - This is a multi-asset LIC. I like Regal as an asset manager in general.
LSF - L1 Capital. They also have L1IF which I do not own. I'm also invested one of their managed funds via super. I like this asset manager.
HM1 - An interesting LIC. Multi-asset manager. Best picks from each. Still trading at a generous discount. GW is a director. Chris Cuffe is chairman wink.png.
WAR - Needs no introduction. IMO this is trading at the best discount in the WAM stable. Shaky start since IPO but is now getting some attention.
WGB - If I had my time again, I would have delayed my initial investment, or not invested at all. But now finally up 12%. ho-hum.
WMI - Good all-rounder in the small cap space. Good sustainable yield. But hardly shooting the lights out in terms of SP performance.
GVF - This is on my watchlist. Another discount asset play, but global. Geoff Wilson and Chris Cuffe are directors. Miles Staude is the portfolio manager.
