Pints, after watching that video I think the author is barking up the wrong tree. Yes after the screen problems in the older MS and MX they had to be recalled and there was also a supplier originated battery fault that needed to be fixed but there wasn't any hostility from the authorities. China wants their own EV production to compete on the world stage and Tesla is showing them the way.
China did introduce a subsidy cut-off below the price of all Tesla models however Elon countered that by reducing the price of the M3 SR so it was eligible for the subsidy. If there was any animosity the authorities would have further reduced the threshold or found another reason to deny Tesla the subsidy.
Tesla is sourcing the majority of the materials to construct their vehicles at Giga Shanghai locally and has initiated a local design centre (rumoured to be developing a Model 2 for world wide production). They are already exporting Model 3 vehicles from China to OS markets.
Before Tesla started production at Shanghai and under a different subsidy regime the local EV product was very low quality, now (partly due to a number of joint ventures with western manufacturers) there are a number of EVs that are ready for export markets.
Tesla is one of the best things that has happened to Chinese EV production and the authorities recognise that. IMHO within a few years the majority of low priced EVs available in the world will originate from China and part of the reason will be Tesla's presence there.
