Low volume auto manufacturers do no have a great
history of long term success. Musk has got into EVs
at a time when the biggies were lagging but now that
Porche and BMW are getting into the prestige/sports
segment of the EV market, Telsa is likely to be squeezed.
Lets face it, if you have the choice of a Telsa, Porche or BMW
prestige/sports EV, Tesla would likely come last.
Musk seems to be like Alan Bond in the 1980s; just because he can get
financial backing, he has diversified beyond his abilities. His risky and
marginally profitable space vehicle program is an example of an
entrepeneur O/D ing on investor confidence.
DeLorean in the 1970s had a go at aluminium bodied sportscars
which was the fad at the time but once investor confidence petered
out he went bankrupt.
