I would tend to dissagree, GM has been making cars for near on a century while Tesla just tookover
oe of GM's Calefornian plants post the GFC to manufacture the Tesla in volume.
So long as he can get investors funds to diversify, he'll simply do it.
Such enterprises usually collapse like a house of cards once the first problems arise.

In the motor vehicle industry, Jensen Motor Company is a classic example.

High profile with a touch of Hollywood and then down the drain.

Remember Allen Bond in the 1080s. While he could borrow money he
    diversified:
    -land development ( Yanchep etc)
    -breweries ( Swan & Fourex)
-TV station( Ch 9..Kerry Packer's dream)
-Bond Motor Corporation( import of Hyundai)
    -Bond university
    -Transport. (Bell Bros)
Then the Recession we had to have and the rest is history.
