That's not exactly true. For an operation that requires constant power day and night you really need baseload.

Wind, Solar etc only work when there is baseload backup.

Diesel will not be enormously expensive compared to mains power (even including capital cost over a 20 or so year mine life) and has lots of problems anyway.

As someone who has worked in the mines and is an electrical power engineer I assure you that power is a key factor for any mine/mining operation.
