We endured a scenario in Japan a couple of years ago where my better half broke her foot and we had to take her to a Hospital in Tokyo. I thought too a great idea would be to ring our local Embassy to speak to some one in English to assist us with directions etc.
After rooting around for an eternity to find the Australian Embassy telephone number, I called them to find the girl who answered spoke very broken English and had no idea what we wanted. She couldn't find any body who spoke English to talk to us either.
We eventually used sign language and notes at the Hotel reception to get directions and arrange a cab to take us to the Hospital...
