UCG reduces the CO2 emissions by about 25% compared to a conventional coal fired power station. Under an ETS, renewable energy like geothermal, solar, wind, wave and tidal will be the big winners as they reduce emissions by 100%.
That being said the imminent introduction of an ETS has not stopped the construction of gas fired power stations around the darling downs.
