That's only half the story, dunny! Sparta, yes, a militaristic and often dumb place. Just like many other city-states at the time. They believed -much like the present Pentagon- that might was very important. But, unlike the Pentagon they had a strong sense of ethics. Slavery? What's the difference with now? The US corporations keep millions in conditions of slavery and every now and then they run down the hills and blast a couple of hundred thousand out of existence. Sparta was tiny and only one half of the equation. The other, the fertile ground of the mind and ethics I was talking about, was Athens. The two went to war because one wanted to defend a concept called Democracy while the other the idea of... well not dictatorship, or even socialism but at least, non-capitalism! And the speeches they each made! Forget Churchill and Bush. Read Thucydides if you want some enlightment, some juicy, satisfying reading! Read and learn about leadership! Then come back and compare if you wish!
