I suppose you could have asked the question about the take-up of flat screen TV's and DVD players. Initially we had to pay $5000 for a large plasma (or LCD) TVs but look at the prices now. Just as we were forced to switch to digital TVs were are going to be forced to switch to EV because motor vehicle manufacturers say it is the only way they can meet strict emission standards.
I find the following article is quite surprising as several countries (Sweden, Norway, Latvia) are producing quite significant amounts of energy from renewable sources.
