MichaelO,
""As we know the retail market is growing quickly through technology and its now extremely easy to buy and sell shares from your mobile. ""
You are 100% correct Michael.
I wrote on H.C a few months ago how the stockmarket today is a completely different beast to what it used to be a few years ago.
Once upon a time clients would have to ring their broker if they wanted to sell and they would usually seek advice from their broker as to what they should do in volatile times. Their broker would often tell them not to panic and not to do anything rash. Not so any more.
Now it's a free for all.
Very few are looking for advice. They just put in their account numbers and sell their stock in the blink of an eye by which ever means is available to them, mobile phone, lap top, home computer etc etc.
And that is the reason why today we have such wild swings in individual stocks because you have a million plus people all having direct excess doing the same stuff at the same time.
The controlled environment that was once being provided by stockbrokers in years gone by is now a thing of the past.
Today it's every man for himself.
Might help to explain how the Dow can be down 460 points and two hours later only down 170 points..
