cacoa, I really and truly hope this peculiar topic has nothing to do with all your posting (and obvious position) in DSH. I can only offer my own view and that is that is never ok morally or spiritually perhaps with the exception of laying down your own life to save others. There is no way to end your own life without hurting others you love and the "They will be better off without me" line is just a lie that those contemplating suicide tell themselves.
We buried my younger brother just 2 months ago. He was only 51 with a wife and a young family. It wasn't suicide but it may as well have been. He had struggled with anxiety and depression all his adult life and he had destroyed his body through years of self medication. Me and his other siblings tried to address this issue with him many times and pointed to his young family. I would like one dollar for every time he used the "They'd be better off without me" line.....and guess what. No one is better off without him. I helped my sister in law with the funeral arrangements and she was a mess. Apart from losing a husband she now wonders how she will cope with 4 children between the ages of 5 and 11. Their oldest boy is devastated because he in particular was very fond of his father. The second oldest inconsolable at the funeral. The youngest are twins and they are still wondering what the hell is happening.
So no. Having witnessed it all first hand recently and having watched the wreaking of havoc on those left behind I say it is never ok. Whatever your problems may be there is always tomorrow and my own personal experience is that it is only by walking through the valley of darkness do you discover your own inner light.
