This is interesting, the Inuit Ataqatigiit are left wing and are the only opposition so far to U mining. At the last elections in Nov 2005 the party won only 22.6% of the popular vote and seven out of 31 seats. Unless there's a large swing it looks good so far.

Economically, Greenland becoming independant means that Denmark Government grants become frozen (pardon the pun). IMO the only way Greenland as an independant state can increase their budget is via royalties & taxes from mining. Plus the other mutiplier effects of locally employed mining workforce.
