Australia has one of the best/greatest amounts of renewable energy sources on the planet.
Sun, wind etc.
At the moment we import nearly all our fuel. We have a couple of refineries on life support with government subsidies for the next 5 years.
We have supposedly got some fuel stored somewhere in the US. One of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard.
We are currently building projects all across the country that will produce hydrogen for export. All powered by renewable energy. That will also power mining operations, smelters, heavy transport etc.
These projects are under way now.
The beauty of renewable energy is that it can be so widely spread rather than be concentrated in one particular area.
The more you electrify things like transport, the more security you have. We already have a vast electricity network . One of the longest in the world.
