413 members of the largest network of fuel cell and hydrogen in Europe: Pioneering concepts from NRW for the energetic production and use

Dusseldorf. together in a network can be future-oriented technologies such as fuel cells and hydrogen technology in NRW much better forward. Already since 2000 therefore supports the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Network NRW EnergyAgency.NRW on behalf of the State Government to further develop these technologies. Around 150 experts gathered recently in Dusseldorf 13 Annual meeting of the network. Svenja Schulze, Minister for Innovation, Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia, opened her presentation with the annual meeting: "In NRW 30 percent of Germany's electricity is produced and consumed 35 percent of industrial electricity. At the same time, we are one of the leading locations for energy research in Europe. Numerous North Rhine-Westphalia research institutions, universities and companies are researching the possibilities intensively on solutions for intermediate storage of wind energy in the form of hydrogen for use of hydrogen as a fuel or for efficient combined heat and power. "

In the next lecture, Professor Dr. Klaus Goerner from gas heat-Institut in Essen the proposed creation of a virtual institute "power to gas and heat" before.

In another lecture program, speakers and discussion, the experts on the state of the fuel cell and hydrogen technology, new developments and further research is needed. Especially the concept of power to gas formed a central theme. It is the process of transforming the current obtained from the volatile renewable energies in hydrogen. In this form can then be directly consumed energy, for example, in fuel-cell mobility. The temporary excess current can also be fed as hydrogen or further converted to methane in the existing natural gas system and

be stored there. With the power to gas hydrogen method can therefore be used as a link between the power supply and the market or between the energy sectors and a balance between supply and demand can be achieved.

Long since the fuel cell has also been introduced in the building sector. Presented the micro power plant BlueGen and associated business models Andreas Ballhausen by the company Ceramic Fuel Cells in Heinberg. The BlueGen a generator is based on a solid oxide fuel cell with an electrical output of 1.5 kWe about the size of a washing machine. The plant is connected to the gas line in the house and thus generates electricity and heat. "The BlueGen has an efficiency of 60 percent. This for a micro power plant encouragingly high value we bring in the boiler room of the private houses, "Ballhausen said. The technology was developed for use in small and medium-sized enterprises but also specifically developed in multi-family houses.

EnergyAgency.NRW provides on its website prior to the use of this micro power plant in a bakery in food as a project of the month of November. As part of the NRW-CHP grant program corresponding fuel cells are eligible for funding under attractive conditions.

Dr. Thomas Kattenstein, head of the network, finally informed about the activities of 2013 and the current projects. 20 new members have been added to the network, such as the companies Siemens AG, ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG and E-Plus mobile GmbH & Co. KG. With currently 413 members, it is Europe as the largest network of fuel cell and hydrogen technology. 110 projects it has already been initiated, the North Rhine-Westphalia together with funds from the European Union (ERDF) funding of almost € 115 million of a total budget of around 190 million euros. Another major success was Dr. designate Kattenstein: "We are very pleased that the NRW Climate Protection Ministry has recently decided our NRW-support program, the" NRW Hydrogen HyWay "to continue for another three years until 2016."

Alois Buschfort of food has made room in his basement - for the next revolution in the power supply. The micro power plant BlueGen, hardly bigger than a washing machine, supplied from now on his property as a multi-family house with bakery operation with self-produced electricity. Purely natural gas, electricity and hot water out - so the simplified calculation.

The company Ceramic Fuel Cells from Heinberg at Aachen manufactures the micro-power plant of the latest generation. Due to the small power plant called "BlueGen", the operator can with self-produced electricity by electricity utilities make independent to a large extent, halve its current electricity costs roughly the same time and do something for the environment. The systems based on fuel cells have been developed for on-site use in small and medium-sized businesses, such as bakeries, butcher shops, gas stations, or even hairdressers - the installation is sensible but also in multi-family houses. For this technology, Ceramic Fuel Cells has won in the category of Energy in August 2013 the GreenTec Award.

"The BlueGen is for me a competitive advantage," says Alois Buschfort. "I offer the bakery favorable energy costs and low CO 2 emissions. This is increasingly important especially in the food industry. "According to the latest survey conducted by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce thinks, because of rising electricity prices in Germany, currently one in four companies about it, to produce electricity themselves. Especially the smaller companies feel the rising cost of electricity in your wallet quickly. At the same time however, they are dependent on a reliable supply of electricity.

A feasible way to produce electricity in his own basement, offers micro power plant. This is made possible by the unique high electrical efficiency of BlueGen systems of up to 60 percent. With optimum utilization of such a system contributes up to 13,000 kWh for electricity consumption - excess energy is fed into the electricity grid and remunerated accordingly. At the same time, heat is produced, which can be used for water heating. The BlueGen systems have now passed the milestone of three million hours of operation - and offer maximum reliability.

"Our plants produce highly reliable energy there, where it is needed. The performance can be adapted flexibly and without effort to the current demand, "said Andreas Ballhausen, Executive Vice President of Ceramic Fuel Cells in Germany. "Besides their own financial benefits our customers make a lasting contribution to the energy turnaround. For fall compared to the German electricity mix of electricity production up to 50 percent less CO 2 on emissions. "

Alois Buschfort is one of the first private customer that has received € 13,000 grant for its investment through our existing since March 2013 micro-CHP support of North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim of the promotion is to increase the share of CHP in total electricity generation in NRW in 2020 to 25 percent. Since mid-March, therefore, also the micro power station of the brand BlueGen of Ceramic Fuel Cells is recognized as eligible.

To also at the company headquarters in the region Heinberg further promote the market introduction of environmentally friendly fuel cell technology CFC has established the "Fuel Cell Initiative Heinberg" under the auspices of the mayor. Together with the network operator Alliander AG, the installation company Jürgen Hohnen GmbH, the city Heinberg and Volksbank AG Heinberg be installed in the region with customers and offered with special promotion 100 Blue gene.

Furthermore, the company has completed in the framework of the Energy Project of Innovation City Bottrop Ruhr in cooperation with the gas and heat-Institute Essen eV (GWI). By the end of ten BlueGen plants and two integrated Brennsoffzellenheizgeräte be installed at customers in Bottrop. The facilities are operated and tested under scientific supervision of GWI at least two heating seasons. Overall, the project plans to innovation Ruhr 100 buildings in the city area Bottrop equip a field test with the-art micro-CHP systems.
