I actually agree with @MI but perhaps for different reasons.

Turnbull is a Merkel Green and must be sacked.

When Merkel was here in 2014 she told the Liberals that if they wanted to survive they needed to go Green.

This opened the door for our Malcolm as he felt that surge of green blood surge throughout his political body.

The carbon tax variant seemed to coincide with the billion $ announcement for the Adami coal mine. So it looked like a smokescreen to divert the media away from coal.

Whatever the reason it was dumb politics. Given that Turnbull is not taking Shorten on over the ALP's economic sabotage he must go along with ScoMo.
