In the US under FED regulation T and SEC Rule 15c3-3 a prime broker may re-hypothecate assets to the value of 140% of the client’s liability to the prime broker. But in the UK there is no limit to the amount that can be re-hypothecated so ALL of a clients assets may disappear. Eg MF Global UK limited.
