When the law goes too far, it is no longer respected. Violence takes its place.
Late yesterday an environmental and heritage officer was serving a notice on a Moree property regarding the illegal clearing of vegetation. He was shot dead.
Land clearing has been a hot potato for a long time. Once respect and sensible negotiation is replaced by jackboot tactics, the outcome is inevitable. It has just come to a head and there will be no going back. Very sad for all concerned.
