    Hi Vela,
AVL main (Scope 1) emissions are expected to commence at less than 150,000 tonnes per year and peak at just over 280,000 tonnes a year, with total greenhouse gases of around 5.25 million tonnes over a 20 year mine life.

That puts AVL in the ‘greater than 100,ooo tons a year category’ that’s now in the hands of Federal Government, but I think - compared to many other WA projects - this company is still a minnow.

And considering the EPA review work that’s already been put into the assessment, I’m not sure that it would all just be declared null and void because of this change ….UNLESS the appeal is based on emissions?
If that was the case I think the whole thing could maybe rank as a ‘hot potato’ the EPA is happy to pass on
    — But in that case we’d start the ‘how long is a piece of string’ stuff all over again, with maybe even longer timelines, as it seems that, with this change, WA has not only saved itself a heap of time, money and especially responsibility, but it’s dumped a very large pile of projects needing assessment onto Canberra staff who were probably already very busy.

    cheers
