You should buy Michael Lewis's book, Flash Boys.
I started reading the other day, and couldn't put it down. In contrast to other articles on the strange happenings you see (such as Alan Koehler's article about "modems operating at the speed of light" and "feeling" an order coming in. Link at the bottom of the page)this book is well researched and well written.
I've just had a strange experience myself with a trade through NABonline, where my trade was executed, but not shown on the course of trades. I had no satisfaction from their technical help, just gobbledegook.
