Above is an image of "true" epithermal quartz lode from Scott Lode in Nth Queensland near charters Towers - it is a distinct quartz - fine grained chalcedony as oposed to often common garden variety quartz as in Bendigo, metamorphic terrains pegmatites etc which is coarser grained, Xlline shapes might be seen etc etc. Distinct to epithermal veins is the rhythmic banding - often numerous in frequency not seen in most other quartz types. This is a HG gold core sample taken back in 1985 or so on discovery. Also often the slightly darker bands have very fine sulphides which host the gold.
