This year in the Epsom I’m teaming up with my fellow Kiwi's Jamie Richards and Te Akau Shark and I feel the horse is going really well.
I had a ride on him on Thursday and he feels like he’s really thriving.
Difficult draw out in barrier 15 (comes in one after the scratching) but there’s no fairer start in Australian racing than the
Randwick mile and history says you can win big Randwick miles from wide draws.
He’s a one-dimensional horse in that he doesn’t go forward so he’s going to be back in the second half of the field.
I won the race on Hauraki in 2016 from a similar draw, a bit closer in, but we were in the outside of the field and he got back and charged late so I know what needs to be done.
I’m actually glad he drew out rather than in. He’s got such a lovely big stride that he’s going to appreciate a bit of galloping room.
