With Molybdenum being in the news lately due to Chinas latest round of critical mineral export limits I thought I would see if I could find a bit more information about EQRs Wolfram camp and its Molybdenum resource.

Currently there is a low grade stock pile containing both Tungsten and Molybdenum and then a previously drilled resource in ground containing both Tungsten and Molybdenum.

At Wolfram camp Tungsten and Molybdenum are in the same ore body unlike some other deposits such as Almonties Sangdong project which has a Tungsten resource with a separate Molybdenum resource adjacent. When EQR mines the Tungsten or processes the LGS at Wolfram Camp they will have Molybdenum along for the ride.

Wolfram camp historically produced Tungsten, Molybdenum and Bismuth. Back in the 80s the company Mount Arthur Molybdenum began mining and stockpiling ore at Wolfram Camp. Wolfram Camp changed hands multiple times over the years.

In 2006 Queensland Ores Limited (QOL) announced a JORC resource of

“These resources are confined to the 500m section of the Wolfram Camp field which has been drilled to date, and are mostly located within 60m of surface. The remainder of the 3 kilometre long target based on former workings remains to be drill-tested, as does the deeper potential evidenced by former workings to 120m below surface.”

Background - Previous production from the Wolfram Camp field, which commenced in the 1890s and continued intermittently until the 1980s, was based on the extraction of high grade mineralisation (+5% combined wolframite and molybdenite) associated with quartz pipes. Lesser production was derived from more disseminated-style, and lower grade, mineralisation surrounding the pipes. It is the potential to exploit the latter style of mineralisation that QOL is evaluating.

In 2014, the deposit was taken over by Almonty Industries and ran the mine for several years before abandoning it.

“The process plant is primarily based on gravimetric separation, aimed at recovering a high grade wolframite concentrate. During 2013, it was able to crush 369kt of material and (after ore-sorting) process 259kt of ore, with an average feed grade of 0.25% WO3. During 2014 the plant processed 345 kt of ore, with an average fed grade of 0.22% WO3. The currently planned processing plant recovery is 71%; with upgrades to the crushing, ore sorting, spiral separators and shaking tables. The overall mill capacity has also been increased to 518 ktpa. The planned milling improvements are going to be implemented during 2017.”

The Bamford Hill mine is of similar nature to the Wolfram Camp deposit containing Tungsten, Molybdenum and Bismuth. Another potential source in EQRs back pocket.

    Current prices are

Tungsten (APT) ~340USD per MTU (10kg)
Molybdenum ~640USD per MTU (10kg) (usually priced per pound)
