“Little forward earnings” for how long?
This is the risk that investors are taking. Forecasting WHEN things will recover, and WHAT that recovered business may look like.
Perhaps do some scenario analyses and the associated maths, and perhaps present those for discussion ...?!
In other words, substantiate your view of $7.20 being “far too high a price”, with more than just a general statement about forward earnings and salaries.
