Yes it isn't technically difficult to turn methane, CH4, into H by the process of steam methane reforming. Only trouble is that for each tonne of hydrogen produced you also produce about nine tonnes of CO2. There are an increasing number of suitable empty holes in the Perth Basin to pump the CO2 back into for long term sequestration though, to tick Twiggy's Green boxes.
