I found the idea that a deal on the debt ceiling not being done as inconceivable. The money men in Wall Street would have lost so much from that scenario to make it an option. The 20% odd in the US that support the far right would not have been able to carry the day and force stop borrowing. Too much at stake. Most of what happened in the past 2 weeks was about politics and getting into position for the 2012 election. There deal to raise the debt ceiling was always going to be done in one form or another.
